October 2018 Playlist

It was a bleak and torrential month of precipitation in Sydney, and this month’s playlist reflects just that. With darker, contemplative, sometimes even sinister tones, it goes to show how much the weather really does influence my selection of tracks. However, at the end of this playlist, as the sun slowly awoke from its long nap behind the clouds, you will be rewarded with a warm and sunny track by Ricky Razu.

As sheets of rain swept across the landscape, I lost myself in deep contemplation with Dusk by UK musician JVXTA. This 12 minute journey has so many great details throughout the track. Headphones are a must for this beauty. Dusk has a somber and deep progression throughout the track with beautiful additions of piano and finer ambient sounds. Over time, the bass, a crunchy synth and clap consume the track and transform its direction.

The rain continued to beat down, and I needed something to move me past this deeply contemplative state. Something that remained slightly dark but had a bit more energy to it. Enter Alone In This Bed, In Versace by South African born Jejüne. Some really nice textured bass through this track and reverb saturated samples from interviews with Gianni Versace.

The rain begins to settle slightly, but again, slipping into a deeply contemplative and reflective mindset was immanent. Words cannot describe this fantastically created ambient house track by Evigt Mörker - Högre. Just throw your headphones on and lose yourself in its glory.

The clouds start to part, giving my poor pot plants some relief from the precipitation, and the mood starts to elevate. This is where German producer Kettenkarussell slips in with a delicious track, Maybe. With swelling synths, a wet and crunchy bassline and violin, it takes you to a far away place. I think if I played this track to my plants all day everyday, they would be pretty stoked.

Now for a sunny track, filled with warm and positive vibes throughout. Belgium producer Ricky Razu produces the goods with his track, Constantly. Cosy synths embrace you the entire expedition, with an uplifting and energetic beat. A true sunny afternoon track while sinking a cold one.

Until next month, keep searching.
