May 2018 Playlist
As the days get shorter and temperature drops, our minds tend to seep into a more depressive state. We go out less because it is too cold; we work out less because it is too cold; we give out less hi fives because it is too cold. I'm kicking off this month's playlist is a similar vein. Starting off with some deeply contemplative, atmospheric house music and then slowly building to some sunny, funky tracks to finish on a more colourful note.
The first track is a deeply thought provoking, reflective track by Dill Collins (not Phil Collins) called You Broke Into My Heart. I can envision listening to this track while on a long train ride, on repeat, and getting a lot of self reflection done. With the subtle atmospheric introduction of different sounds, reverb and delay, this one is not for a cold rainy day.
Next up is Berlin Based musician, Shelter On Wax with Untitled (Pbar Cut). This minimalist, spacious and delay heavy track sends me into a blissful meditative state. It's delicate attention to detail and thoughtful addition of instruments at precisely the right moment, gives this track great balance.
Shifting gears slightly, the third track I have chosen for this month's playlist is by Italian musician Nicholas with Black Juniper. This wonderfully progressive house track, with it's pulsing synth tones and trumpet (wait for it), will help you get through those client copy correction sitting on your desk.
Overtaking that bloody L plater on the highway during a delightful road trip, I'm upping the energy for track four with Got Me Good by LA based musician Never Dull. Its deep groove bass and soft leads are perfect for those long drives to your favourite destination.
Finishing off this month's playlist is Swedish musician and producer Dan Lissvik with M, from his album MIDNIGHT. If this funky number doesn't get you on the dance floor with your mother, I don't know what will. The combination and arrangement of instruments projects such a groovy and quirky personality, it is totally infectious. Toe tapping and head nodding will surely be symptoms of listening to this one.
